The mainstream media is attempting to anoint a Democratic presidential nominee before a majority of voters have spoken. They have already decided that John Kerry is the “electable” candidate, even though a number of other worthy candidates remain in the race. It is imperative that we act now to tell the media that the democratic process comes first in this country and that the disenfranchisement of the majority of Americans voting in the Democratic primaries must not happen.

Each of the candidates bring unique strengths and substantial policy differences to the table that the electorate needs to hear in order to cast an informed ballot. So far the media has managed to give overwhelmingly negative press to Howard Dean, little to no press to Wesley Clark and John Edwards, and they treat Dennis Kucinich as a joke. They have used our public airwaves to promote their own horserace instead of providing the electorate with an open debate in which all voters can participate.

On President’s Day, February 16 at 8:00 am local time, please join a national day of protest by raising our collective voices to call attention to fellow American voters that the free press is not fulfilling it publicly supported obligation to provide responsible coverage of the presidential candidates. Rally with concerned voters in hundreds of cities across the nation in front of your local mainstream media outlets (ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox), especially those with locally and/or nationally broadcast morning news programs that feature an outside, street corner backdrop.Gather outside the television studios and demonstrate your concern about the mainstream medias negligent use of power. Create signs noting the call to “Let the People Decide” or other non-candidate specific slogans. This event is an opportunity to alert voters about the media’s apparent attempt to control the outcome of the primary election by prematurely designating a Democratic nominee before a majority of Americans have cast their votes.

We will be united behind our nominee to defeat George W. Bush in November. We will win because we believe in the basic principles that make America strong. Take this chance to show our unity in promoting a fair democratic process, or it will continue through November. We are united, we are energized, and WE will select our nominee.
